The Winnipeg Jewish Review would like to inform its readership and the larger community that some person or persons unknown recently attempted to compromise the integrity of our readership list by unsubscribing a number of our readers, without the knowledge or permission of those affected.
In the “Contact Us” section of our website, anyone wishing to unsubscribe was able to enter their email address and unsubscribe if they wished to stop receiving the e-blast of our latest edition. However, to ensure that no one could maliciously unsubscribe others without their consent, we set up a system, whereby if someone unsubscribed a given email address, that email address would receive an email saying “You have successfully unsubscribed from the Winnipeg Jewish Review.” This meant that if a culprit mischievously attempted to unsubscribe someone else (whose email address they knew), the person unsubscribed would get an email, and obviously, if they hadn’t really unsubscribed, they would notify us.
Last week we received notification from a very large number of readers advising us that that they had been unsubscribed without their knowledge or consent.
We have taken steps not only to ensure that this illegal interference with our business does not recur, but also to determine the identity of the person or persons responsible and hold them accountable through the appropriate means.
If you or anyone you know was unsubscribed without consent, we regret this unfortunate event, and encourage you to contact us immediately at [email protected]
